Government Approves Five More Energy Investment Projects

PHNOM PENH: The Royal Government of Cambodia approved five new energy investment projects in Koh Kong, Kampong Chhnang, Svay Rieng, Pursat and Prey Veng provinces, on Friday morning, 31 March 2023.

The Head of the Royal Government Spokesperson’s Unit, Phay Siphan, shared through a Facebook post that the Royal Government has approved the following five energy investment projects: the 70-megawatt Stung Russey Chrum Kandal Hydropower Project and the 100-megawatt Stung Veal Thmor Kambot Hydropower Project; and four solar power station projects in Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Svay Rieng and Prey Veng provinces, that range between 60 to 150 megawatts.

Spokesperson Phay Siphan stated that these five energy projects will ensure that sufficient electricity is generated from clean energy sources, reducing the use of carbon dioxide-rich fuels and ensure the greater preservation of the environment. He added that there will also be a fixed electricity tariff of 20 years for solar projects, and 40 years for hydropower projects.

He stated that the Royal Government is expected to generate a total tax revenue of more than $300 million dollars through the five new energy investment projects, excluding some tax revenue such as salary tax and other indirect taxes, as well as other taxes that Electricité du Cambodge (EDC) and other distributors still have to pay.
